Father Christmas set to enjoy a whisky-fuelled Christmas night

Published:  22 December, 2015

Over three-quarters of us will leave something out for Father Christmas this year, according to a survey of Tesco customers.

Despite the unseasonably mild weather, 83% of those still plan to leave a warming drop of alcohol too.

Whisky is the definite tipple of choice to recompense Santa for all his work, with 33% of those who leave a drink out choosing it.

Sherry is the choice of 19%, with beer 14.3% and wine 9.5%.

If Father Christmas is fond of white spirits, he is destined to be disappointed however.

Despite the growth in vodka and gin sales in recent years, no-one is planning to leave him either.

When it comes to food-and-drink matching for Santa, mince pies are the overwhelming choice of snack, with 82.9% of us leaving one or more out.

Only 1.4% of us would plump for the healthier Christmas choice of a satsuma.

We are more careful of the reindeers' health, with 88.3% offering Rudolph and the team carrots.
