Published:  01 February, 2016

Inter Rhône, the joint professional organization for Côtes du Rhône and Rhône Valley AOC wines, has appointed Virginie Charlier as its new marketing and communications director.

Charlier, who was born in the US, comes to Inter Rhône with over 18 years' global marketing and senior management experience at Rémy Cointreau, McCormick and Coca-Cola.

The appointment is aimed at building on the Rhône's position as France's second largest wine region and further developing its export potential.

The UK accounts for 21% of the Rhône's wine exports and is currently the region's single most important export market. Rhône wines have 30% of the French red AOC category in the off-trade.

Charlier will manage a 12-strong team across 15 key markets worldwide.

Charlier said: "With a unique terroir, climate and award-winning producers, the Rhône's appellations proudly offer world-renowned wines, which are highly sought-after amongst wine connoisseurs.

"I'm looking forward to develop and implement strategies to further build a prosperous future for the Vallée du Rhône."
