Think Indie: Building your business

Operating as a 'bricks and mortar' independent in today's retail environment can be tough.

Operating as a 'bricks and mortar' independent in today's retail environment can be tough.

But despite its challenges, this business base still provides an excellent and reassuringly visible brand from which to build other profitable channels of revenue.

How to get the most out of your premises will form the focus of our Building your Business forum at the launch of our independent merchants initiative Think Indie, Drink Indie event on Tuesday.

The session will draw on the experience of successful operators and experts, examining how best to implement and drive forward business bolt-ons, with break-out sessions going into greater depth on four core topics.

The four discussion areas will debate the World Wine Web, looking at how to maximise online presence and sales; Hybrid Business Models - how to capitalise on the off-into-on-trade offer; Wholesale Improvement - developing your operation; and Join the Party - making the most of events and collaborations.

Breakout sessions will be led by Ruth Yates of Corks Out and Hal Wilson, Cambridge Wine Merchants, among others.

Vagabond's Stephen Finch will be on hand to share his insights in our speakers segment as will Ruth Spivey, founder of Wine Car Boot and wine consultant.

Against the backdrop of a dynamic indie merchant scene, we are holding our new Think Indie, Drink Indie focus at a day-long symposium on July 12 along with our 50 Best Indies Awards.

Open to all independent merchants, this free event will be a lively, informative yet relaxed event, designed around your businesses needs and interests.

To whet the appetite, there will be a mix of tailored masterclasses, topical debates, key trade figures, focused tastings and the chance to meet with like-minded colleagues and rivals over the course of the day.

Think Indie's Building your Business Breakout Discussion Session will take place on July 12 from 10.30am to 12.15pm.
