Specialist wine supplier to the on-trade, Jascots, has reported record sales in 2016 with sparkling wine sales jumping by almost a quarter.

During the calendar year, sales grew over 10% from £8.14m to just over £9m, while sales of sparkling wines increased by 24%.

English wine sales also rose by 41% over the period, with Jascots adding seven new English wines to its portfolio.

Managing partner Miles MacInnes, said new business had contibuted to growth in year on year sales.

"It's been especially exciting to see the success of the 47 new wines that we have introduced to the UK for the first time in September. Growth was particularly strong in the middle third of the year, post-Brexit there seems to be a little more caution in the market though we still recorded our best-ever sales over Christmas.

"We're optimistic about 2017, there are bound to be challenges but we will grow and we've got exciting plans that will keep our wine range and service offer evolving and improving," he said.

2016 saw the launch of a new range of wines on-draught, introducing 31 new producers to its portfolio, and 7 days a week delivery.

Jascots is now gearing up for its largest trade event of the year on January 26, where they will unveil on-trade market research and host a series of masterclasses focusing on food and wine trends for 2017.
