Nine out of 10 bottles shipped were Chablis or Petit Chablis, with the remainder Chablis Premier Cru or Grand Cru.

"Chablis is experiencing strong sales in the UK which is fantastic news. The Chablis commission of the Bureau Interprofessionnel des Vins de Bourgogne (BIVB) is continuing to invest in the UK through trade masterclasses and events throughout the year. The UK definitely remains the most important export market for Chablis wines," said BIVB marketing manager Françoise Roure.

Last year's exports to the UK bucked the decline in wine consumption to grow year-on-year BIVB reported, although exact figures are not available.

Some 2.6 million bottles of Chablis were exported to second largest market Japan, with a value of €16 million. Of those, 78% were Petit Chablis and Chablis and 22% were Premier Cru and Grand Cru. Wines from Burgundy accounted for 20% of all wines on sale in Tokyo in 2012.
