Four new champions of German Riesling were inducted into the Riesling Fellowship hall of fame at Wines of Germany's recent celebrating of the country's winemaking.

Four members of the trade from three countries were recognised for their efforts in promoting Germany's flagship grape.

They are UK food and restaurant consultant Martin Lam, Belgian importer François Langbeen, merchant Peter Kuhn and wine importer Max Gerstl, both from Switzerland.

The inductees join 11 other fellows, including Jancis Robinson OBE MW, Hugh Johnson MW and Paul Grieco.

Schloss Vaux, Weingut Barth and Weingut Aldinger, were some of the producers at this year's tasting and gala dinner at the Vintners' Hall in London, where there was a focus on German sparkling wine (Sekt).

"The Riesling Fellowship is an opportunity for us to celebrate the excellent wine produced in the German wine growing regions, with those members of the trade whose passion and dedication is instrumental in ensuring these wines get the recognition they deserve," CEO of the German Wine Institute Monika Reule said.

"This year we have awarded four new fellows from across Europe, and we would like to thank them once again for all of their hard work spreading the word about quality German Riesling."

The Riesling Fellowship was founded in London 2007 and has since branched out internationally.

The first Asian Riesling Fellowship took place last year and is due to reach the USA some time this year.
