DBG Italia goes independent from Berry Bros. & Rudd

Italian agency business DBG Italia has announced it will detach itself from Berry Bros. & Rudd by becoming an independently owned company.

Former Berry Bros. Italian buyer David Berry Green, who founded and named DBG after his initials, said it is time for his company to 'spread its wings' by being able to supply to the rest of the industry.

Since its launch in June 2015, DBG Italia has traded through specialist wine importer and distributor Fields Morris and Verdin, which is owned by Berry Bros. & Rudd.

From April 1, DBG Italia will be fully owned and directed by Berry Green.

"The support I received from Berry Bros. & Rudd during my first 18 months as a business owner has been instrumental to the success of DBG Italia," he said.

"I've built up some strong relationships during my years in Italy and the time has come to spread my wings and promote my 'family' of world-class Italian wine producers to a broader market."

Berry Bros. & Rudd will continue to source a selection of the Italian wines range from DBG Italia.

Dan Jago, chief executive at Berry Bros. & Rudd added that the company would continue to work with DBG Italia's "unparalleled" selection of Italian producers.

"David worked for the family business for over twenty years, with 15 of those years as a wine buyer. His buying responsibilities saw him sourcing wine from Burgundy, Spain, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand amongst others, but it was the wines from Italy, with their unfulfilled potential, that really captured his imagination," Jago said.
