Berry Bros & Rudd: Commercial Manager (Retail Channels)

Berry Bros. & Rudd are currently recruiting for a Commercial Manager (Retail Channels).

This is a new position in the business which will play a pivotal role in optimising our retail performance, to ensure our broad range of customers – who enjoy wines from £10 to £10k+ - continue to be delighted by Berry Bros & Rudd’s offering.

The role’s core objective is essentially to ensure we propose the right products to the right consumers via the right channel and at the right price and time.

The primary focus category for the role is Wine, with additional Spirits & Gifting elements. Retail channels within our ‘Private Client’ area include our shops, online store, Wine Club and outbound Wine Adviser team.

Based in Basingstoke, this role will report to the Director of Private Clients, with some travel to our London offices as required.

Key accountabilities in the role include:

Commercial performance – evaluating all aspects of performance and helping refine consequent retail offer eg range and pricing

Retail Plans – helping drive business by designing and owning trading plans, tailored by channel eg promotional calendars

Delivery & Execution – working with other departments to ensure sales teams have all necessary commercial elements at their disposal eg compelling & profitable propositions, available stock

To be successful in the role, you must be not only commercial and analytical, but a proactive problem solver with the initiative, drive and flexibility to make things happen.

You should be passionate about delivering strong retail performance, with proven success in this area and an ability to shape and apply best-practices, processes and ways of working. In addition, familiarity with the full end-to-end supply chain will be invaluable, given the multiple areas involved (buying, sales, marketing, operations).

As an individual, you will be highly personable and a strong communicator who can build effective project teams and relationships quickly. You must be organised, with good attention to detail and the confidence and ability to work autonomously when required.
