Bartenders head to Morocco for finals of international gin competition

Published:  18 September, 2017

Ten bartenders are arriving in Marrakech today ready for the world finals of the Opihr World Adventure Cocktail Competition.

One Brit is among ten bartenders who are competing for the crown in the historic Moroccan city.

Opihr Oriental Spiced Gin is an aromatic take on the premium gin category.

The brand’s annual competition was launched in the same year that Opihr was released by Quintessential Brands in 2013.

It is produced at G&J Greenall’s distillery, Britain’s second largest distillery, which is also responsible for other quality spirits such as Greenall’s, Bloom, Berkeley Square and Thomas Dakin.

Following regionals finals, Carla Molina Ruiz from the UK will compete against bartenders from a number of different countries, including the US, Germany, Malaysia and Australia.

At tomorrow’s final, the bartenders will recreate the cocktail that helped them win in their place at the final and create a new serve, incorporating spices and ingredients sourced from the city’s medina and spice gardens.

The finalists taking part in the Opihr World Adventure Cocktail Competition final are:

• Cesar Gustavo Perez II - U.S.

• Aaron Gerard Pollock - U.S.

• Michael Rambags – Netherlands

• Marius Kohne – Germany

• Patrick Vercambre – Belgium

• Giritharan Panchakaran – Malaysia

• Gorge Camorra – Australia

• Filippo Laccu - Italy

• Carla Molina Ruiz - United Kingdom
