Chapel Down appoints ex BrewDog head as ‘beer MD’

Published:  04 October, 2017

Chapel Down has appointed Gareth Bath, previous managing director for craft brewer BrewDog, to the newly created position of ‘managing director of beer’.

Bath, who takes on the position with immediate effect, will in his new role be responsible for the growth and development of the English winery’s premium Curious beer and cider portfolio.

The appointment, revealed today, formed part of “ambitious” growth plans for Curious, said Chapel Down, which unveiled a new look for Curious at the same time.

“Gareth will bring a new level of energy and expertise to grow the Curious business and brand to greatness,” said CEO Frazer Thompson, adding he would, with his blue-chip background and the tremendous success he enjoyed with BrewDog, be a great addition to Chapel Down’s board and give the whole business an immediate boost.

Introduced to reinforces Curious’ credentials as a “highly premium English lager with a winemaker’s complexity, style, intelligence and elegance”, the new packaging design is being rolled out now across the three-strong portfolio - Curious Brew, Curious IPA and Curious Apple.

“We wanted to create a new look for the brand that did justice to the beer and which will make it stand out in a crowded market,” said Frazer.

Positioned as a “unique and distinctive proposition”, Frazer said Chapel Down was excited by the success of Curious and though the brand presented “a truly huge opportunity”.

Bath said: “I love the proposition on the beers – they are unique – and I am looking forward to building the new brewery, creating a great team, giving the consumer an amazing experience and exciting the trade - we can take Curious onto the
world stage.”
