Höpler introduces first limited Kirchberg release in nine years

Published:  06 October, 2017

Family-owned Austrian winery Höpler has introduced the latest vintage of its Kirchberg single vineyard range.

Only released in ‘exceptional years’, the launch marks the first limited release from the winery’s signature vineyard in nine years.

The new range comprises Kirchberg Blaufränkisch 2015 and, for the first time, Kirchberg Grüner Veltliner 2016, with both showing “exceptional quality”, said owner and winemaker, Christof Höpler.

“The wines combine the benefits of our unique location with our winemaking expertise and are a perfect way for us to showcase the excellence of Austrian wines,” he said.

Two consecutive years of "ideal climactic conditions" presented the opportunity for Höpler to introduce a new vintage to the collection, he added.

“The 2015 harvest had all the qualities required to produce Kirchberg Blaufränkisch – the last vintage of which was 2007,” he said, adding the combination of a hot summer with a record six-week heat wave and a cool autumn with occasional showers had created a fuller bodied, darker Blaufrankisch with a “modern appeal”.

The duo will be available from this month across key European markets, including the UK.

Located in a sunny corner of Austria, the Höpler winery produces a diverse range of wines on their 47ha, including 55% white wine, 40% red and 5% sweet wines.
