Time Out announces award nominees

Time Out magazine has revealed the 50 bars and restaurants shortlisted for its 2005 Eating and Drinking Awards.

The awards, now in their 16th year, comprise 10 categories, with Best Al Fresco and Best Burger Bar new additions this year. The magazine explained the decision for the new categories: It illustrates a change in attitude of London's restaurateurs to offer a more relaxed style of quality dining. The growth of the high-quality burger restaurant demonstrates Londoners' increasing demand for gourmet food standards across all restaurant genres.'

The nominations are collated from recommendations by Time Out readers, who also will be able to vote for their personal favourite, although the magazine's own anonymous reviewers will revisit each venue to make the final decision.

Criteria for the awards, which will be announced in late September, include service, ambience, value for money and quality of ingredients.

The nominations include:

Best Al Fresco: Coq d'Argent; Garden Caf; Inn the Park; Petersham Nurseries; Curve.

Best Burger Bar: Gourmet Burger Kitchen; Hamburger Union; Fine Burger Co; Hach; Ultimate Burger.

Best New: Amaya (Indian); Bluebird Dining Rooms (British); The Food Room (French); Ledbury (French); Maze (Haute).
