Industry big guns sign up for consumer show

Some of the UK's biggest wine companies have signed up for this autumn's consumer wine show, The Wine Show London.

Generics such as Wines of Chile and Wines from Spain, as well as wine companies and brands FGL, Berkmann Wine Cellars, Cordonu, Ehrmanns, Pernod Ricard, Reh Kendermann, Villa Maria and Yellow Tail, are among those who have signed up for space.

We are delighted with the response we've received from the trade to The Wine Show London,' said Tim Etchells, managing director of event organiser Consumer Exhibitions (which also organises the BBC Good Food Show). The show is rapidly filling up with a range of leading wine generics, importers and distributors, retailers, accessory companies and course organisers,' he said, adding that limited space is still available'.

A 250,000 consumer advertising campaign featuring the strapline Taste, Try and Buy' will be appearing in newspapers such as The Observer, The Independent, The Guardian and The Evening Standard[i/]. An outdoor campaign also will be taking place, concentrating on the London Underground, National Rail and DLR. Etchells said he is hoping to attract 15,000 consumers to the event.

A full educational programme also has been confirmed with seminars and tastings being led by Oz Clarke, Robert Joseph, Joe Wadsack, Matt Skinner and others. Other attractions will include the Corney & Barrow Vintage Wine Bar, Meet the Maker' and Drink with the Experts'.

The show will be launched on Thursday 27 October at the Business Design Centre in Islington and will run for four days. Thursday night will be a preview evening' for invited guests and members of the public willing to part with 75 a head. Friday will be a trade day', although members of the public will still be able to attend, while Saturday and Sunday will be targeted at wine consumers.

Trade members who pre-book will gain entry for 6.25 on Friday and 7.50 on Saturday. Tickets on the door will be 17.50 for Friday and 20 on Saturday and Sunday.
