Star wines and evolution trails at Wines from Spain's annual trade tasting

Published:  15 February, 2018

This year’s Wines from Spain annual trade tasting will highlight the opportunities from Spain’s myriad DOs, styles, grape varieties and terroirs, with importers also selecting their ‘star wines’ from across the on and off-trades.

Once again, the great and the good of Spain’s winemakers will descend on London for the 29th iteration of the tasting, which will exhibit 1,000 wines from over 300 Spanish wineries.

Visitors will be able to attend focused half-hour tastings looking at the recent evolution of key Spanish wine styles and regions, including Garnacha and Green Spain led by Sarah Jane Evans MW and Tim Atkin MW respectively.

There will also be a focus on individual wines via the Sky Trail feature, which will run throughout the main exhibitor area.

Visitors can look out for the Sky Trail sticker highlighting importers’ top picks for both the off and on-trades.

Atkin’s tutorial offers a whistle-stop tour of the Basque Country, Galicia and Castilla y Léon with his top five wines from across Spain’s green and pleasant lands, while Evans is due to present five expressions of Garnacha from Campo de Borja.

Raul Diaz will also present his on-trade Spanish essentials list, introducing five whites every restaurant should have.

Bodegas Ramón Bilbao, Boutinot, Gonzalez Byass, Hatch Mansfield, Enotria & Coe and Félix Solís make up some 39 importers due to attend, alongside 16 exporters seeking distribution who will present their Spanish portfolios.

The 29th Wines from Spain Annual Tasting will take place on Tuesday 6 March 2018 at London's Sky Garden.
