Top Stories: It was a busy week this week as tasting season ramps up and one of the first international trade shows of the year, Vinisud, united byers in Montpellier in southern France.

France was also a subject of discussion this week due to the possibly of health warnings on French wine labels, signalling talks about alcohol industry going the same way as tobacco companies with interference from the government and health lobbyists.

Meanwhile, back in the UK, there were some gin-related innovations at Berry Bros. & Rudd and Pinkster. 

Also, there was a big move for the Oxford Wine Company which announced it has left buying group, Vindependents, of which it was a co-founder, to concentrate on project with larger merchants.



Analysis and Insights: Artificial intelligence and augmented reality is all the rage at the moment not only in the tech industry but in wine and spirits as the utimate way to engage with and educate consumers.

We also took a look at the rapid rise of bulk and how harvest shortfalls mean it could be about to hit a block in the road.


People and Opinion: Harpers’ twice annual SITT returns for its spring tasting next week in Manchester (February 26) and London (February 28).
