Michael Saunders returns to Bibendum as chief executive

Published:  14 May, 2018

C&C Group has announced former head of Bibendum, Michael Saunders, has re-joined the business as chief executive.

Saunders, who joined Bibendum in 1983 and played an integral role in growing the company to become a market leader in the UK wine industry, will in his new position be joined by James Kowszun who returns as COO - a role he had previously held for nine years.

C&C Group, which acquired Bibendum last month following the collapse of previous owner Conviviality, said it was “delighted to have Michael and James back in the business”.

“Bibendum is a real jewel and under Michael’s leadership, we expect to see Bibendum continue to flourish, working hard to deliver the very best wines, spirits and services to our customers,” said CEO Stephen Glancey.

The decision to re-join had been “easy”, said Saunders.

“As part of the C&C Group, I know we have the backing to quickly strengthen and develop what is already a great business. James and I will be joining a strong group of people, who share our passion and determination to take Bibendum to the next level,” he said.

Bibendum’s portfolio includes 270 wine suppliers of which it claims more than 90% is exclusive.
