LWF: Lanchester launches Italian duo to challenge conventional packaging

Published:  20 May, 2018

Lanchester Wines unveiled a premium Italian wine duo today at the London Wine Fair (LWF).

The limited edition range, exclusive to Lanchester Wines in the UK, comprises Le Argille Cabernet di Cabernet 2014 - presented in a cement-dipped bottle with labels made of leather, and Baglietti Prosecco DOC No.10 which comes in a diamond-cut glass bottle with gold foil closure and navy fabric label.

In addition to ensuring a “desirable presentation”, the cement-dipped bottle - claimed to be a UK first, also acted to preserve the flavour of the wine, said Lanchester Wine, adding the duo had been designed to challenge conventional packaging.

“These are wines designed to stand out on any bar or table; something the customer will be proud to display. We know many people buy with their eyes which is why we’ve worked closely with our Italian agency, Vinicolo Tombacco, to bring two exciting and unique products to the UK market,” said buying manager, Lesley Cook.

However, while the bottles looked “stunning”, Lanchester's wines could not be "style over substance" and the company had ensured the wine inside met its high standards, she added.

Grapes for the Le Argille Cabernet di Cabernet 2014 come from vineyards in the Treviso countryside. After traditional fermentation in wooden barrels, the wine is matured in cement while a special cement vessel has been made in which the juice is aged for 24 months to ensure a maximum extraction of colour, tannins and taste.

The Baglietti Prosecco DOC No.10, produced by Cantina Baglietti with premium grapes from the Piave area, is allowed to rest for a longer period of time resulting in a yeast with a drier and fuller flavour.

Both wines will be available to the UK market from June.
