Armit Wines announces release of Torre de Oña Martelo 2014

Published:  28 August, 2018

Armit Wines has announced it will be releasing Torre de Oña Martelo 2014 from Torre de Oña next month.

Launched last year, the second vintage of the latest wine from La Rioja Alta S.A. will be available from next month from Armit Wines, with a special preview planned for its annual tasting on September 5th.

A blend of 95% Tempranillo, 5% Mazuelo, Garnacha and Viura, Martelo 2014 represents the vineyard’s own traditional blend and has been aged for 24 months in American oak barrels and 20% French oak.

This second vintage of Martelo stood out for a growth cycle with “very suitable weather” that met the expectations of a great vintage, said La Rioja Alta S.A chief winemaker Julio Sáenz.

“We picked during the first week of October, looking for the highest aromatic expression from selected plots in the Martelo, Camino de la Iglesia and Las Cuevas vineyards. The vines here are over sixty years old, with good exposure, and achieved balanced ripeness and were picked in a magnificent condition. The 2014 Martelo is remarkable due to its outstanding freshness and elegance,” he said.

Already well received by some of the world’s most renowned critics, with James Suckling and Robert Parker giving the wine 92 and 94 points respectively, Armit Wines said it was “really excited” to share the launch with its customers.

“The releases from La Rioja Alta are always hugely anticipated events each year and the new vintage of Martelo is no exception,” said managing director Kirsten Kilby.
