Flint bolsters Burgundy portfolio with four young domaines

Published:  30 October, 2018

Flint Wines has grown its Burgundy portfolio with four producers.

The quartet, which will be introduced at the importer’s annual Burgundy En Primeur tasting in January, comprises Domaine Yvon Clerget, Domaine Henri Magnien, Domaine Jean-Marc Millot and Domaine Violot-Guillemard – all young domaines.

Taking on distribution across both the on and off-trade, Flint Wines said the new additions “perfectly reflected what we are about as a company”.

“Our strategy is to bring both wines that capture the essence of their terroir and wines from the next generation of growers that continue to breathe life into the most thrilling wine region in the world,” said Burgundy buying director Jason Haynes.

The producers, he added, were very much part of the generation of twenty and thirty-somethings who had set Burgundy alight in recent years with their ambition, insight, energy and sheer talent.

“Confidence with no hint of arrogance seems to be one of the key ingredients in the make-up of these future benchmarks,” he said.

Domaine Yvon Clerget is based in Volnay, with winemaker Thibaud Clerget’s first vintage being 2015, while Domaine Henri Magnien is the rapidly evolving estate of Charles Magnien tucked away at the top of Gevrey-Chambertin.

With six hectares of vines, the latter has various village plots, four Premiers Crus and a parcel of 0.4 hectares of the Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru.

Based in Nuits-St-Georges, Domaine Jean-Marc Millot is run organically, although not certified, and has various parcels of old vines, with its vineyard line up including three Grand Crus: Echezeaux, Grands Echezeaux and Clos de Vougeot.

Domaine Violot-Guillemard has vineyards across the Côte de Beaune in Beaune, Meursault, Monthélie, Auxey Duresses, Volnay and Pommard.

Specialising in Burgundy, North America and Italy, Flint Wines works directly with over 120 domaines and wineries across the world.
