Five wines awarded grand gold medals for bulk sales

Published:  26 November, 2018

Five wines have been awarded grand gold medals at the International Bulk Wine Competition.

The five winners were chosen from over 200 wines from Georgia, Spain, Argentina, Chile, Italy, Uruguay, France, South Africa, Australia, Romania and the US to receive the top accolade.

The winners comprised French wine Aoc Cotes Du Rhone 2018 from wine producer Anagram; Chacha Wine Grappa "Fresh White" 2017 from Bolero & Co in Georgia; Entremontes Crianza 2015 from Spanish wine producer Bodegas Entremontes. Two Italian wines – Chardonnay 2018 from Cantina Di Rauscedo and Rosso Nero Di Troia 2018 from Agresti Vini Srl.

This year, 26 professionals from 20 countries were in charge of tasting the 200 wine samples entered into the competition, which claims to be the only international contest that awards and promotes the quality of bulk wines from across the globe.

Winning a medal guaranteed that the wines would have "great visibility and attention" by international importers and brokers who attend World Bulk Wine Exhibition (WBWE), said the organisers

The competition took place one day prior to the WBWC, which opens today (26th November) and gathers 85% of the global supply of bulk wine.

The primary objective of the competition is to make known the virtues of quality bulk wines among purchasers, distributors and consumers, as well as to award the efforts of the winemakers.

The International Bulk Wine Competition follows guidelines of the OIV and judges regardless of origin and only based on quality criteria.
