New London bar Fam has a pair of industry stalwarts behind it, namely Megs Miller and Dré Masso.

The duo have set out to create a venue that celebrates family and community, with a particular focus on its direct family – London’s bartenders. As evidence of this, staff members will be able to become partners in the business without having to invest financially.

The 50-cover bar, with space for 20 on the outside terrace, places an emphasis on both locally sourced and rescued ingredients and materials, with products such as those from nearby Bloomsbury Distillery part of the offering.

Cocktails are priced at £10.50, including drinks such as the Fam Margarita made with a blend of highland and lowland tequilas, house citrus and Devon flower honey, or The Claymore, with blended whisky and English sparkling wine cordial.

Food is by Tim Ross-Watson, formerly of The Goring Hotel, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay and more, and consists of nostalgic bar snacks such as a Dingly Dell ham and cheese toastie, or the “cup-a-soup” – butternut squash, roasted garlic and white truffle oil with buttered milk-bread soldiers.

When it comes to music, guests can make requests from a wall of “good-time” vinyl albums.

Miller is also the global Tahona Society ambassador, while Masso represents Olmeca Altos, which he helped to create, as well as mentoring in bar sustainability around the world. Together they have launched consultancy Comunidad, working together with operators Eric Yu and Martin Malley to set up Fam.
