Consorzio of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG ramps up UK promotion

Published:  27 March, 2019

Consorzio of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG has increased its UK promotional activity for 2019.

Building on the success of the 2018 push, this year’s campaign will feature a series of masterclasses for sommeliers, wine buyers and wine journalists held in London and Manchester, with a new focus on #SuperioreAfternoon - the pairing of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG with Afternoon Tea.

The broader campaign includes a series of trade and consumer promotions to highlight the “high quality, nuanced diversity and food-friendliness” of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore.

“The initiatives and communications have been created to introduce the highest quality examples of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore to the UK market, and to introduce the many consumers who love Prosecco to the most nuanced, characterful and refined expressions of their favourite wine,” said the consortium.

Producers and importers will be working with leading venues famous for their Afternoon Tea, of all styles, with incentives and support to offer an expanded selection of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore.

#SuperioreAfternoon launched for the press at The Hari Hotel, Mayfair on Monday 25th March. Wines from forty-two producers of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG were presented alongside “Napolitea”, the Hari’s acclaimed Italian-twist Afternoon Tea.

The UK is the most important export market for this historic appellation by volume, with 7.4 million bottles sold in 2017. In the same year, 120 million bottles of Prosecco DOC were sold, with Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG representing just 6% of all Prosecco sold in UK.
