Turner leaves Tesco to open restaurant

Published:  23 July, 2008

Tesco buyer Sarah Turner and her husband, Gary, product development manager at Majestic Wine, are leaving the wine trade to set up a restaurant together.

The Turners' new venture, The Vanilla Pod, is in the coastal town of Lymington, Hampshire.

According to Sarah: The menu will make the most of seasonal ingredients, which we've sourced, wherever possible, from New Forest and Hampshire producers. And, of course, we hope our wine list will be both exciting and fantastic value, with a wide range of wines available by the glass, as well as by the bottle.'

She added: I've really enjoyed working for Tesco, it's been a great experience and there's a lot of people in the wine team I'm going to miss. However, I've been with Tesco for six years now and Gary's been with Majestic Wines for 12 years, so we both felt that now was the right time for a new challenge and are really excited about running our own business.'

Jason Godley, Tesco's category director for wine, commented: Obviously we are all sorry to see Sarah leave as she has become an integral part of the team over the years and she will be greatly missed by everybody in the team.

I would like to thank Sarah for all the help and support she has given us in the past year, as well as her great contribution to the business over the past six years.'

Sarah worked as a wine product development manager for Tesco, with buying responsibilities for Italy and Spain.

According to Godley, her successor will be announced in the coming weeks'.
