McTEAR'S FOR MACALLAN

Published:  23 July, 2008

McTear's in Glasgow recently auctioned a bottle of The Macallan 60-year-old malt whisky for 15,000, which is believed to be the highest price ever paid for a single bottle of whisky. The bottle was sold unlabelled and the lot price included a "unique, bespoke label which will be designed to the purchaser's own specifications". The whisky was filled into cask in 1926 and bottled in 1986. It is one of only 40 bottles of the 60-year-old, and only the 25th bottle to be released for sale. This is the first time that an unlabelled bottle has been made available for sale.
