IWSC and Harpers join forces in new group

Published:  23 July, 2008

Harpers and the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) are to form the basis of a new Wine & Spirit division at business-to-business publishers, Nexus Media Communications, headed up by Allen Gibbons, formerly of Diageo, the largest drinks company in the world.

Nexus Media chief executive Neil Thackray said: We have undertaken a thorough round of market research in the wine and spirits area, which is informing our plans for both the development of Harpers and the IWSC. As part of our evolving plan for this market, I am announcing some further changes to the Nexus management team. On 14 September, we will be welcoming Allen Gibbons as general manager of a newly created Wine and Spirit division. Allen will have profit, strategic and management responsibility for IWSC and Harpers and all related activities.

Gibbons joins Harpers and the IWSC having had a long career at Diageo, including a three-year spell heading the UK innovation commercialisation team, where he launched a series of drinks including Smirnoff Black Ice, Bells Special Reserve, Baileys Minis and Archers Aqua. Most recently, he was responsible for strategic brand and capability development for Diageo Africa. Previously, Gibbons was national account manager for Del Monte. He reports directly to Neil Thackray.
