Virgin Wines has slashed its Champagne prices by 17.5% - the equivalent of removing VAT - and has introduced a same-day SOS wine delivery service for the festively thirsty' within London and the M25. Virgin Wines has selected four mixed cases - its Gold Medal Winners, Great Value Award Winners, The Wine Buyers' Christmas Dozen and the Christmas Survival Case - all of which can be ordered over the phone for delivery the same afternoon or evening within the London area. Orders received by 1pm on Virgin Wines' dedicated same-day delivery number will be delivered before 6pm, and those received by 5pm will get there by 10pm the same evening. Orders will be taken until 2pm on Christmas Eve for delivery that evening. Delivery to the door will cost a flat fee of 6.99, courtesy of courier service Addison Lee and e-fulfilment company M-Box. Virgin Wines claims that its same-day service is the first major direct to the door' service to be launched since the height of the dot-com boom. The company says that it has taken on board comments from customers from the Christmas 2000 sales period which showed that demand for instant wine' reaches a peak in the run-up to Christmas, for both gifts and personal use.Rowan Gormley, Virgin Wines' CEO, said: We're dreaming of a white Christmas, a red Christmas, a ros Christmas and a sparkling one. This service gives people a way to avoid a last minute punt between unknown wines from a warehouse or supermarket. This is about great wine which is convenient and competitive for people who simply can't wait over Christmas.' For the same-day service, phone 0845 145 2031 any time between 9am-6pm and up to 2pm on Christmas Eve. For the Champagne deal, try: /fizz3.
