US Senate declares September National Bourbon Heritage month

The US senate for the state of Kentucky-Tennessee has declared September as National Bourbon Heritage month.'

The move is expected to reinforce bourbon as America's native spirit.

Beam Global Spirits & Wine plans to host a series of events throughout the month including educational tastings for consumers and industry professionals, and exclusive bourbon events in the on-and-off trade to be unveiled in due course.

"Earlier this year, Beam Global declared 2007 as the Year of the Bourbon' because of the significant growth numbers and popularity of the category," said Jim Clerkin, president of Beam Global Spirits & Wine, North America.

"The dedication of an entire month in celebration its heritage is a significant milestone for the entire bourbon industry and our company."

The global bourbon market grew by 3% in 2006. Since 2003, high-end bourbons have seen revenue grow from $450million to over $500m, some 202m cases, according to the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (Discus).
