Co-op consults on ethical policy

Published:  23 July, 2008

UK: The Co-operative Group is to poll its four million members on the development of a food and drink ethical policy.

In 1992, the Co-op was the first supermarket to embrace Fairtrade by stocking Cafdirect and followed this in 2000 by introducing the UK's first Fairtrade bananas.

It switched to green electricity 1998 and became the first major retailer in the UK to switch all its mainland outlets to green electricity.
