Sparkling wine sales beat summer weather blues

Published:  23 July, 2008

Poor summer weather didn't prevent UK sparkling wine sales climbing 7% by value and 3% by volume, according to AC Nielsen off trade figures.

These also showed Spanish producers holding 55% volume share of the sparkling wine market where Italian and Australian sparkling wines have also done well..

Codorniu is now the biggest seller in volume, and is second to Freixenet in value, with the brand seeing 36% growth in this area.

"Jacob's Creek is doing well, but the others aren't achieving in supermarkets," claimed Codorniu's UK managing director Bill Breen.
