Sainsbury's uses Top 10' to sell more wine

Published:  23 July, 2008

Sainsbury's has introduced a Top 10 display in its wine aisles to help increase product sales.

The display will appear in 378 stores by the end of April and it will have a different theme every six weeks.

The first Top 10 display will kick off with the theme of "new wines" and this will be followed by "buyers' favourites".

The display will also provide consumer information, food matching ideas and endorsements to help customers.

Warren Anderson, of the Sainsbury's wine team, said: "Our Top 10 wines section is designed to give our customers the confidence to try something new.

"We hope to assist shoppers to broaden their knowledge and become a little more experimental when they choose wine."

He said Sainsbury's looked outside of the food sector to retailers such as Waterstones and Blockbuster and the way they helped consumers to make the "right personal selection when confronted by enormous and varied choice".
