Yali wine shortlisted for Asda sponsored green award

Chilean producer Viña Ventisquero has been announced as the only wine company to reach the finals of this year's Green Awards.

Chilean producer Viña Ventisquero has been announced as the only wine company to reach the finals of this year's Green Awards.

Its recently relaunched Yali range has been short-listed as one of only three products in the Best Green Packaging (over £50,000) category, alongside Cadbury and Speedo International.

Viña Ventisquero relaunched the Yali range last month to "fly the green flag" for the company's commitment to environmental practices.

Yali has been shortlisted for sporting new lightweight bottles that are 9% lighter than the average, and back label information explains its connection to Chile's El Yali wetland zone, which it donates some of its profits to.

Viña Ventisquero was also the first winery in Chile with a certification to off-set its CO2 emissions via a programme with UK-based Climate Care.

"Our company is committed to the preservation of the environment, and has been since its inception 10 years ago," said Viña Ventisquero's sales director, Américo Hernández.

"The Yali range is named after the El Yali Wetland Zone located in the same valley as Viña Ventisquero's winery. We contribute towards the conservation of this and other wetlands around the world, and the repackaged Yali wines are a means of communicating our environmentally friendly nature."

The final results of the Green Awards, which were first launched in 2006, will be announced at a ceremony in central London on November 12.

The Best Green Packaging category, which is sponsored by Asda, is split into two sections: companies with budgets over £50,000 and those under.
