Nearly 400 wines from over 80 producers went on display at the Autumn Exclusive French Wines Fair in London last week.

Nearly 400 wines from over 80 producers went on display at the Autumn Exclusive French Wines Fair in London last week.

The event, themed around wines retailing at £6 and over, attracted 43 exhibitors, several of which reported sustained sales despite the credit crunch and rising costs.

The four major producing regions, Bordeaux, Languedoc, Loire and Rhône, dominated the tasting, accounting for 70% of the wines on show. The other regions represented were Alsace, Beaujolais, Burgundy, Champagne, Provence, South West and Corsica.

Ten percent of the wines shown were rosé, in an indication that the wine is growing in popularity.

Several producers used the event to unveil new products; Clink! Wines chose the fair to unveil Le Beast and Le Weekend, and Les Caves de Béziers launched its "20 rosé" in a can targeted at the younger and environmentally friendly consumer.

Exhibitor Catherine Monahan, managing director of Clink! Wines, said: "It was a great day, there was good energy amongst suppliers and a good opportunity for all to discuss the relevant issues facing France."

Organisers said that attendance up by 14% on last year.
