Moldovan wines in UK push

Published:  31 March, 2009

Promoting quality Moldovan wines is the focus of a new UK business.

Imperia UK - formed by Tomas Lankutis - has secured a portfolio of imports from the country.

Lankutis says that the new imports have already received a warm reception.

One of the first companies to accept delivery of the Moldovan wines will be John Gordons, a wine merchant from Cheltenham.

Owner Gordon Duff says: "I look to offer my customers something different, a little unusual. With Moldovan wines I can recommend something new - they are decent, drinkable wines which have a fascinating history. They have been overlooked for far too long".

Moldova has a rich history of wine production dating back to the 8th century BC.

At present Imperia UK has a small portfolio of what it describes as the best of Moldovan wine.
Lankutis adds: "I am delighted by the reaction we have had from the companies that we have approached. Once people have heard the fascinating history of the country and tried our fantastic wines they have been keen to pass their discovery on to their customers."
