Rioja is to launch its first generic promotional body in the UK. The Rioja Regulatory Council has appointed Spear Communications to run the PR campaign, which will include a Rioja Wine Information Centre, to be run independently by Sue Glasgow of Spear. Tom Perry, the Rioja Wine Exporters Association's managing director, said: This represents a first for Rioja and a significant increase in funding for the region.' Funds will be collected from both growers and wineries. Glasgow stressed that Rioja is still fully involved in Wines from Spain, but also wanted to invest in its own future'.
