Bourbon gets help in US Congress

Published:  18 June, 2009

Two Kentucky members of the US Congress have formed a caucus group to represent the interests of the Bourbon industry.

The group has been formed by representatives John Yarmuth and Brett Guthrie to "educate other members on the legislative and regulatory issues impacting the industry".

Yarmuth said: "This caucus offers a solid base of bipartisan support for one of Kentucky's most important industries and largest employers."

So far, 17 members of Congress have signed up to the group. There is already a caucus group for the wine industry.

The move was welcomed by Jim Beam producer Beam Global.

Bill Newlands, president of Beam Global USA, said: "The Congressional Bourbon and wine caucuses demonstrate the importance and contributions of America's distillers and vintners to the economy. We support the caucus in its work to strengthen the industry."
