INDIVIDUAL DO FOR DOMINIO DE VALDEPUSA

Published:  23 July, 2008

Dominio de Valdepusa, the home base of Carlos Falc, the Marqus de Grin, has been awarded a new individual Denominacin de Origen, the first ever DO for a single estate in Spain. The agriculture and environment offices have approved and acknowledged Dominio de Valdepusa as a denomination of origin for specific quality wines produced on the estate. According to Falc, this is an important step in the history of winemaking, both in Castilla-La Mancha and in Spain as a whole'. The denomination is one of two announced under the decree 127/2000 of 1 August, in which the conditions of recognition of denominations of origin for quality wines are established (similar to that of the French chteau'). The other new DO is Finca Elez, Manuel Manzaneque's estate outside Albacete in La Mancha. The Dominio de Valdepusa estate consists of 40 hectares of vineyard in the Malpica de Tajo (Toledo) and is planted with Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Graciano. Four wines will be produced: single-varietals of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Syrah, in addition to a blend of the three varieties in varying proportions.
