A new underground fine wine storage facility has opened near London on the site of a former wartime air raid shelter.

EHD London No.1 Bond Limited, the bonded warehouse specialist, is launching Locke-King Vaults in Surrey which are built into a series of 17 tunnels approximately one mile in length.

The famous Brooklands site opened as air raid shelters in 1939 to protect some 5,000 staff employed in the construction of fighter aircraft supporting the war effort.

Laying dormant yet secure for over sixty years, the tunnels have been christened after the British entrepreneur, Sir Hugh Fortescue Locke-King (1846-1926).

This operation will be coordinated and administered by EHD's current staff from the main EHD offices and warehouse on the Brooklands site where more than 300,000 cases are stored above ground.
