Imbuko Wines triumphs at Fairtrade Wine Awards

Imbuko Wines from South Africa won the Overall Fairtrade Wine of the Year, sponsored by Harpers Wine & Spirit, at yesterday's Fairtrade Wine Competition in London.

Imbuko Wines from South Africa won the Overall Fairtrade Wine of the Year, sponsored by Harpers Wine & Spirit, at yesterday's Fairtrade Wine Competition in London.

In all the winery, distributed in the UK through Brand New World, walked away with three prizes for its Isabelo Pinotage 2008 having won a certificate for Best Fairtrade South African Red wine and Best Overall Fairtrade Red Wine, sponsored by Off Licence News.

The awards, held at Vinopolis as part of the annual Fairtrade wine tasting, saw a record 82 wines entered, a 34% increase on the previous year.

Other winners included the Best Overall Fairtrade White Wine which wen to Six Hats Sauvignon Blanc 2009 from Citrusdal Cellars which is distributed in the UK through Off Piste Wines. It also won the certificate for Best South African White Fairtrade wine.

Other certifcate winners included Best Argentinian White wine for the Timiuqui Single Vineyard Fairtrade Organic Torrontes, 2009 from La Riojana, Best Faitrade Chilean Red which went to Los Unidos Camenere Cabernet Franc 2008, distributed by Ehrmanns and Best Faitrade Rose which with to the Co-operative's Fairtrade Chilean Merlot Rose 2009.

The Best Fairtrade Sparkling also went to the Co-operative for its Cape Sparkling Rose NV from South Africa.
