Oddbins has agreed to become a full member of the British Retail Consortium and help with its lobbying activities particularly around alcohol.

Stephen Robertson the British Retail Consortium's director general, said: "With the political and economic uncertainty associated with the looming General Election, it's great to add another voice to the BRC's lobbying expertise.

"Alcohol is a major issue for all political parties. Oddbins' membership will boost BRC campaigning to ensure a measured approach to alcohol laws in Westminster, Edinburgh and Brussels. We're also working hard to ensure the business environment retailers work in is not overly burdensome, allowing them to continue maintaining and creating jobs."

Simon Baile, Oddbins co-owner and chief executive, said: "We've joined the BRC for its impressive record on fighting on behalf of retailing and influencing key-decision makers to ensure legislation is introduced in a way that helps retailers thrive. We look forward to working with the BRC and contributing to its work."

With 123 outlets, Oddbins is the largest independent high street specialist drinks retailer and employs over 500 people.
