Wine and spirits logistics provider, London City Bond has secured a contract with wine merchants Laytons.

It will store and distribute wines for Laytons from its Barking depot.

Originally founded in London in 1934, Laytons was eventually taken over by the Jeroboams group and has a portfolio that focuses on individually sourced wines with origin and style to the on-trade sector.

Jeff Stanton, non-executive chairman at London City Bond, said: "The Barking depot is ideally located to service the London on trade market, and has transport links to all of the other depots to ensure nationwide transport coverage."

He added more than £1.5 million has been invested in London City Bond's new 270,000 sq ft warehouse in Barking, including the installation of the most advanced CCTV systems, intruder alarms and IT systems. Customers are now able to check their stock over the Internet in real time and GPS handsets are being introduced to enhance the tracking of deliveries.
