Laithwaites to support International Grenache Day

Published:  20 September, 2010

Laithwaites Wine, is joining the celebrations of International Grenache Day on September 24.

The idea for the day-long event originated at the First International Grenache Symposium in June when over 250 top Grenache producers, journalists, and retailers from 23 countries came together to debate the merits of the grape variety.

The day will see events ranging from tastings to promotions and menu-pairings taking place around the world .

Laithwaites will highlighting some of its most popular wines produced from the Grenache grape at its Winter Wine Tasting on September 22.

Justin Howard-Sneyd, global wine director, of the global Laithwaites operation, Direct Wines, said: "This fabulous red grape dominates the blended wines of the Mediterranean coast and beyond, and deserves to be better celebrated.

"We know our customers already love the full body, generous fruit and soft yet lush tannins typical of the variety, yet few of them have ever heard of Grenache."

He added: "Laithwaites have over 30 wines in our range that are made from Grenache or have Grenache as a base, and predict that it will be the up and coming red grape of the future."

The Laithwaites Winter Wine Tasting will be held at Altitude 360, Millbank Tower, London SW1P 4QP - 11am-5pm.
