Majestic Wine Warehouses' run of success continued last week with the announcement of record profits of almost 3 million before tax for the 26-week period to 30 September. This represents a 78% increase on the same period in 2001. Total sales were up 27.9%, with like-for-like sales up 10.7%. Three new stores opened in the period, with several more planned to open in the near future. Tony Mason, Majestic's first and only trading director, is to retire on his 60th birthday, in just under three years' time. From January, he will be working three days a week and will focus on searching for parcels of wine at below market price, and the expansion of Majestic fine wine sales'.
