Australian winemaker Tim Adams has bought the Clare Valley's Leasingham Winery from Constellation.

Adams signed the deal on the historic winery, which dates from 1893, along with his wife and business partner Pam Goldsack.

The winery will not re-open until the 2012 vintage. It will serve as a contract processing facility for the region's small producers and grape growers, and will also act as a home for a range of wines under made and sold for Variety SA, the Children's Charity.

The Leasingham brand does not form part of this transaction.

Constellation originally put the winery on the market two years ago as part of an efficiencey drive. At the end of December 2010 Constellation Brands signed an agreement to sell its Australian and UK wine business to CHAMP Private Equity of Sydney, Australia in a deal worth around AUS$290 million. The deal is expected to be completed by the end of this month.
