MATTHEW CLARK SIGNS UP THE SPANISH

Published:  23 July, 2008

The trend for brand owners to target the UK on-trade continues with the recent announcement that Torres and Faustino are to be distributed by Matthew Clark Wholesale (MCW). The deal with John E Fells means that MCW will exclusively represent Miguel Torres SA's three tiers of wines (Traditional' wines for everyday drinking; Reserva' wines blended from individual vineyard sites; and the single-vineyard Pago' range), as well as a range of premium spirits, including brandies and Aqua d'Or. Effective from 1 April, the new arrangement will not affect present distribution channels within the off-trade. Fells, as main agent for Torres (Spanish) Wines, will still be responsible for the sale and marketing of the brand in the UK, and Wine Importers of Edinburgh will continue as sub-agent in Scotland. This agreement, however, does not include Torres' Chilean wines, which Fells will continue to distribute exclusively. Meanwhile, Cellar Trends has announced that the Grupo Faustino range of wines, including the world's (and the UK's) biggest-selling Gran Reserva and Reserva Riojas, Fortius wines from Navarra and Condesa de Leganza wines from La Mancha, will be distributed more widely in the on-trade through MCW.
