Noma wins world's best restaurant for second time

Denmark's Noma has been name the world's best restaurant for the second year in a row at the San Pellegrino World's 50 Best Awards.

The Copenhagen restaurant, run by Rene Redzepi, held on to the top spot in this year's awards. The restaurant first joined the list in 2006, at number 33, reaching number 15 in 2007, 10 in 2008 and third place in 2009.


Spain scopped second and third spots ? El Celler de Can Roca in Girona came in at number two, while San Sebastian's Mugaritz was third.


Heston Blumenthal's The Fat Duck in Bray dropped two places to fifth, as Osteria Francescana in Modena, Italy, pipped it into fourth position.


The list is organised by Harpers Wine & Spirit's sister title Restaurant magazine, and voted for by more than 800 judges in 27 regions across the world. Winners were announced at a ceremony held at the Guildhall in London last night.


Brett Graham's The Ledbury was the highest new entry on the list at number 34. Other new entries this year included Amber in China, Astrid Y Gaston in Peru, Varvary in Russia and Pujol in Mexico.


Eight restaurants dropped off the list this year, including: Die Schwartzwaldstube, Jaan Par Andre, last year's Best in South America La Colombe, Mathius Dahlgren, Ozxen Krog, Tetsuya's, WD-50 and Thomas Keller's Californian restaurant The French Laundry.


Juan Mari Arzak from Arzak restaurant in Spain won a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Best in Africa: Le Quartier Francais, South Africa
Best in Asia: Les Créations de Narisawa, Tokyo

Highest climber: Nihonryori Ryugin, Japan
Highest new entry: The Ledbury, UK
