The first Russian sparkling wine has arrived in the UK market via Berkmann Wine Cellars.

Russian entrepreneur Boris Titov's SVL Group has shipped two pallets of its sparkling wine Abrau-Durso to the UK to test the market.

SVL, which bought Abrau-Durso in 2006, signed an agreement with Berkmann Wine Cellars during the LIWF to market the wines from this month.

Pavel Titov, director of investment and finance at SVL told Harpers that "the UK market is the key premium wine market in Europe".

"If we want to be taken seriously as a premium brand then the UK is clearly where we need to be," he added.

Titov confirmed the wine's first listing as London's Sketch restaurant.

Boris Titov, who owns the group, said it will export Cuvee Alexander II Brut and Cuvee Alexander II Rose. They will be priced at £20-£22rrp a bottle, with sales forecast to reach over 25,000 bottles per year in both the on and off-trades.

Boris Titov emphasised that Abrau-Durso was not in competition with large volume sparkling wine brands such as Prosecco and Cava.
