Agents and importers are being tasked with creating a rugby-themed promotion around Kiwi wines for the chance to win a trip to New Zealand.

New Zealand Winegrowers is running an incentive programme for all UK agents and importers to win the trip and bring a key on-trade customer with them.

With New Zealand hosting the Rugby World Cup this autumn, NZWG is asking importers to run a rugby-themed promotion with their restaurant customers to coincide with this event. The aim is to raise the profile and encourage customers to buy New Zealand wines, especially in fine dining establishments.

Importers and agents are free to develop their own promotional campaign to suit customers needs.

David Cox, European director for NZWG said: "The idea behind this is to encourage on-trade buyers to increase the diversity of New Zealand varietals offered by the glass and on main wine lists.

"New Zealand is passionate about rugby and with the country hosting the World Cup in September and October, this is an ideal opportunity to use this major sporting event to create interesting and exciting promotions with restaurants. We know that there is a real synergy between rugby lovers and wine drinkers."

The prize is two tickets to New Zealand in 2012, one for the agency and one for a staff member from a participating restaurant. International and internal flights, accommodation and a tour of New Zealand's wine regions is also included.
