The official selection of the 2010 Crus Bourgeois du Médoc will be unveiled to the UK wine trade in September at a new London venue.

The event on September 21 will take place at the British Academy on Carlton House Terrace and will open with a conference led by Frédéric de Luz, the president of the Alliance des Crus Bourgeois du Médoc.

It will run from 10.30am to 5pm, with a continuous free-pour tasting of many of the wines that will make up the 2010 line-up from the eight Médoc appellations – Médoc, Haut-Médoc, Listrac-Médoc, Moulis, Margaux, Saint Julien, Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe.

Stephen Brook, author of The Complete Bordeaux, will also host a tutored blind-tasting masterclass between 11.30am and 12.30pm, entitled Crus Bourgeois 2010, Diversity Through the Appellations.

Frédérique Dutheillet de Lamothe, director of Alliance des Crus Bourgeois du Médoc, said: "It is very exciting for us to be hosting the UK debut for these wines at a new venue in London, and we are confident the quality of the 2010 Official Selection will give the UK trade and press a unique opportunity to sample the richness and diversity of the Crus Bourgeois du Médoc in an excellent vintage."

What is the Alliance des Crus Bourgeois du Médoc?
The system was revised in 2009 and is open to all eight Médoc appellations. Wines are assessed by vintage and the judging process, which takes place annually from March to July two years after the vintage, takes account of wine quality and production facility standards.

The selection committee is made up of key wine professionals in Bordeaux who have no links to any of the chateaux. The wines are tasted blind and with no discussion, to ensure a fair and rigorous decision over which wines are chosen.
