Tesco Wine Magazine has launched its first cover-to-cover augmented-reality magazine, in a bid to offer its customers new ways to "discover" more about wine.
The augmented-reality features are accessed using the new Tesco Discover smartphone app and come to life when the app is held in front of each page of the magazine.
Enhanced features include tutored tasting videos from the Tesco wine team, food and wine-matching suggestions and click-to-buy features.
In conjunction with the launch of the Discover app within the magazine, Tesco is also offering customers the chance to win a year's supply of wine, by getting readers to find the hidden wine symbol among the pages.
Tesco.com marketing director Ian Crook said: "Having successfully launched the augmented-reality technology in our Real Food Magazine last month, we are delighted to be able to move forward so quickly with this innovative extra content in our Wine Magazine.
"The augmented-reality features are a fun and fantastic way to really bring content to life for customers, and we look forward to further developing the features with our wine team and suppliers."
Laura Jewell MW, category product development manager, said: "By building augmented reality into the Wine Magazine, we have given more value to the reader, providing them with a richer experience and the chance to take their engagement with wine to the next level."
Tesco's upcoming in-store Drinks Festival will also feature extra information accessible via the Discover app, and visitors to Tesco's Wine Fairs taking place in September and October will also be able to access tasting notes from winemakers via this new technology.
The Discover smartphone app is free to download and is compatible with iPhone 3GS and above, iPad 2 and Android 2.2 and above.
