UK agent Stevens Garnier is further broadening its international portfolio by launching a series of premium, hand-crafted Australian wines from Pyren Vineyard.

There are five Pyren Vineyard wines in the new range from the 32ha property set in the Warrenmang Valley, Pyrenees region in Victoria, which will be available to independent retailers, wholesalers and the on-trade. The winery specialises in making Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, and the range comprises Broken Quartz, Block E, Yardbird Union and Studio Ink. All have a set of art-inspired labels.

Stevens Garnier's buying and marketing director James Forbes said: "We believe that now is the time for premium Australia and in Pyren Vineyard we feel we have found a real gem.

"The first time I met winemaker Leighton Joy at the London International Wine Fair this year I was totally blown away by his approach and the wines just made me do a double take. Supreme vineyard area producing low yields of concentrated fruit, combined with an obsession to become a benchmark producer in Victoria are the elements that are going to make these wines hit the right spot for the serious wine drinker. I'm glad we got there first in signing them up."

The Pyren Vineyard soils are sedimentary red loams, with seams of quartz surfacing throughout. The property is owned by Kevyn Joy and his brother Brian, whose son Leighton makes the wines in close collaboration with viticulturist and sometime sheep grazier Graeme Miles.

The full Pyren Vineyard range is:

Broken Quartz Shiraz 2010 (rrp £13.99)

Broken Quartz Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 (rrp £13.99)

Block E Shiraz 2010 (rrp £19.99)

Yardbird Union Cabernet Sauvignon/Malbec/Petit Verdot 2010 (rrp £19.99)

Studio Ink Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 (rrp £19.99)
